Catherine Simpson

Catherine Simpson teaches film, media and convenes the Honours program at Macquarie University (Sydney). Her main research interests include the construction of identity and space on screen in terms of nationhood and gender; screen automobile cultures; film festivals; transnational and small national cinemas. She has organised film festivals in Australia and Turkey, and has written on the cinema of both countries in a range of published works including Womenvision, Metro, Senses of Cinema, Australian Humanities Review, SCAN and Studies in Australasian Cinema. Her PhD, on the work of contemporary Australian female filmmakers, was undertaken at Murdoch University (Perth, 2001).
