Robert Watts

Robert Watts is a Senior Lecturer in Art and Design Education, Roehampton University, London. Having trained, worked and exhibited as an artist, he became a primary teacher in 1991 and taught in an inner-city school on a full time basis for nine years and on a part-time basis for a further three years. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in Art and Design Education at Roehampton University in 2000, a post that he initially combined with his teaching commitments in school. He now now teaches solely at Roehampton on initial teacher education programmes (BA and PGCE) and MA Education programmes, though research projects regularly take him back into school. His research interests include the use of artists’ work in primary education, developing children’s drawing and the impact of cultural and environmental factors on children’s concepts of visual beauty.
