Abstract
The aim of this article is to demonstrate that the spin off concept has been presented as an efficient solution. Its success is essentially related to key factors such as the nature of the social capital and the personality of the entrepreneur of the spinned off firm. The article focuses on three main areas. Firstly, it assesses and defines the concept of spin off. Secondly, it outlines and evaluates the relevance and effectiveness of the Tunisian experience. Finally, it presents a comparative study of two small firms who have undergone a spin off operation with a large Tunisian firm: the Company of Phosphates of Gafsa (CPG).
