Abstract
The article considers an immanent, critical relation between theory and artistic practice and that this theoretical and critical background is not demonstrated by the work but in relation to painterly practice. It is literally a background to the making of the work where a series of propositions set up a critical dialogue. An important and recurrent theme discussed is the relationship between cultural hegemony and painterly abstraction in terms of questions of signification.
