John Fagg

John Fagg is a lecturer in the School of American and Canadian Studies at the University of Nottingham. His research explores late-nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century American art and literature with a particular focus on responses to modernity and processes of cultural change, and also the representation of everyday life. He is the author of On the Cusp: Stephen Crane, George Bellows and Modernism (Tuscaloosa: University of Alabama Press, 2009). He teaches courses on American Literature, The Emergence of Mass Culture and the art and literature of New York City.

Research for the article ‘From Back Number Aesthetics to New Expression’ was conducted whilst the author held a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship and he wishes to thank the Leverhulme Trust for their support.
