Chris Kabwato

Chris Kabwato is Director of the Highway Africa programme run by the School of Journalism and Media Studies, Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa. He joined Highway Africa in October 2003 and has helped develop it into a major network of African journalists that promotes the use and understanding of ICTS and new media by journalists. Highway Africa convenes the largest annual gathering of African journalists (735 people attended Highway Africa Conference 2008). Chris is also Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Zimbabwe in Pictures – an electronic newsletter that tells the story of Zimbabwe in photographs (see more at: http://zimbabweinpictures. wordpress.com). Kabwato has been associated with Southern African film and video industry for a number of years. He was Head of Education & Public Affairs at the British Council in Harare from 1998 – 2000 before his appointment as Director of the Southern Africa Communications for Development (SACOD).

SACOD is a network of 48 independent film producers spread over 11 Southern African countries. Kabwato was educated at the University of Zimbabwe.
