Virginia M. Madsen

Virginia Madsen is a writer, academic and broadcaster. Currently based in the Department of Media, Music, Communications and Cultural Studies at Macquarie University Sydney, Madsen is Convener of Radio and Audio and lectures in documentary history. A member of Macquarie University’s Centre for Media History, she has published widely in the fields of public broadcasting radio, radio history, documentary, experimental forms of radio internationally and sound design and ecology. She is currently writing an account and exploration of the documentary idea, ‘filme sonore’ and feature form in radio: The Other New Wave: Filme Sonore and the Documentary Imagination. Also a practicing radio-maker, Madsen was one of the founding producers of the ABC (Australian) program, The Listening Room.

Her work has been heard on numerous radio stations worldwide, at international competitions and has been adapted for broadcast in several languages.
