Call for Papers

All articles submitted should be original work and must not be under consideration by other publications.

Journal of Interdisciplinary Voice Studies provides a forum for scholarly and practice-based engagement with voice as a phenomenon of communication and performance, a methodological tool and a theoretical basis for the analysis of experiences, artefacts and events. We invite submissions that contribute to an interdisciplinary conversation on the idea of voice, welcoming contributions from all fields of voice work including teaching, performance, qualitative/quantitative research, practices and theories of voice.

One issue in each volume will follow an explicitly thematic focus. Regular guest-edited editions will enable the community of voice scholars to be represented through a international and multi-disciplinary forum.

We draw on an interdisciplinary series of lenses, including cultural studies, critical theory, performance studies, inter-culturalism, linguistics, visual culture, film and media studies, musicology, opera studies, ethnomusicology, architecture, sociology, education and somatics, and in so doing, contributions might engage with—but are not restricted to—one or more of the following areas:
