Hollywood. Wh
ere better place to hold the 2010 Alliance for Theatre in Higher Education conference? Los Angeles is a city who's history is steeped in stars and who's cultural and economic roots have become bound to performance. We were really happy to take part in this year's conference. The breadth of research and writing on the ways in which traditional theatre through to the most broad definitions of performance impact our psyche and society was very inspiring.
The conference was held at the Hyatt Century City, where we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy palm trees and a lovely pool-side every once in a while, in between the packed conference schedule. There was, in fact, little room for downtime, as sessions went from 8am until 7.30pm every day, with scant 15 minute breaks in between! By the end of the week, everyone we spoke to seemed a little bit overwhelmed but thoroughly exhilarated by the sheer volume of ideas and perspectives that had been introduced.
As always, we very much appreciated the opportunity to speak with so many of you face-to-face, and to meet a whole array of wonderful new people and contributors for our Performing Arts portfolio. We also had a great interview with members of the editorial board for our International Journal of Performance Arts and Digital Media that will be published shortly. We're really excited about the new projects that have been proposed as a result of our meetings in LA and we look forward to introducing these to you in the near future!
