Abstract
This article considers the journeys of three postgraduate illustration students whose M.A. theses were concerned with storytelling. It considers the distinctive challenges to supervision these posed, including certain ethical and personal issues involved when candidates illustrate and write their own stories or the stories of others. Following a preliminary discussion of advantages and challenges posed by story design, the article considers ways in which complex issues surrounding story ownership and responsibility were approached in supervisory practice.
