Çaglar Akgüngör graduated from the Department of Political Sciences and Public Administration at Galatasaray University, Istanbul, Turkey. He holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. degree in Political Science from the Grenoble Institute of Political Studies, University of Grenoble II, France. His main research interests lie in the social and political dimensions of risk and disaster issues, risk perception, decision-making and public policy-making regarding emergencies and extreme events. Author of various scientific publications, including the first disaster sociology study of Turkey, Akgüngör has served as the Director of Research within the AKUT Training and Research Institute from 2012 to mid-2015. At the time of publication he works as project manager at AKUT/Search and Rescue Association.
