Africa in Motion Film Festival 2-6th November 2011

The UK's largest African film festival Africa in Motion takes place this 2-6th November in Edinburgh. The festival brings together the best in new cinema from Africa, classic films from the continent's most-celebrated filmmakers, award-winning documentaries, seminars, exhibitions and events.

The aim of this fantastic event is to overcome the under-representation and marginalisation of African film in British film-going culture, by bringing a range of original and inspiring African cinema to Scottish audiences.

What is it?

Africa in Motion is a largely volunteer-run festival. It was set up in 2006, by good friends Lizelle Bisschoff and Melissa Trachtenberg, in order to create more opportunities for Scottish audiences to see African films and to provide a platform to African filmmakers to exhibit their work in Scotland. This year's theme 'Children and Youth in Africa' will focus on the children and young people living in both the rural areas and urban centres of Africa.

In collaboration with National Schools Film Week, this year's festival will also include screenings of a number of films especially for primary and secondary schools in and around Edinburgh. Schools are invited to Filmhouse for screenings of fiction, animation and documentary films followed by fun and challenging workshops for Scottish children to really engage with the lives of their counterparts in Africa.

Other events include three award-winning feature fiction films from the FESPACO film festival 2011 and a number of seminars and documentary screenings at Edinburgh College of Art.

Feedback on last year: "Thank  you for a wonderful few days in Edinburgh... the diversity of subjects and filmmaking styles meant seeing a stunning portrait of Africa!" - Holly Lubbock, director of 'Fezeka's Voice', 2010 guest.
