Jonathan Obar
Jonathan Obar serves as an Associate Professor at York University in Canada, as well as a Research Fellow with the Quello Center (a media and information policy research center) at
Michigan State University. Their research and teaching address information and communication technology (ICT) policy and policymaking, with the aim of assessing connections between ICTs, civil liberties and the inclusiveness of public culture(s). Their work is theoretically informed by political economic and political science scholarship, and connects these perspectives with the communication studies and information studies disciplines. Recent work focuses broadly on internet governance and media reform, and specifically on big data and privacy, online consent processes, deceptive user interface design, corporate transparency and network neutrality.
